AN Grace

Turkish mufti, Spanish drawing of the 17th century by unknown author.

I often wonder
if the Pope travels sideways
or backwards
or upwards for that matter.

Or what the Grand Mufti hides
behind his beard
while he's walking, stalked
by his fawning sons.

Or if the vicar takes LSD
in his English breakfast tea,

when the sermons grind and shiver.

AN Grace is a writer from the United Kingdom, whose work has appeared or is forthcoming in Queen's Quarterly, Young Magazine, The Racket, Haight Ashbury Literary Journal and others.
