It Eventually Flew Away

Bird imprint left on a window after a collision.

A bird flew into my living room window.
Too small to break the glass,
it had no choice
but to land after the crash,
quivering,
waiting to die,
probably just as dumbfounded
as the rest of us
by current circumstances.

The neighbour’s cat no where
close, reminding me
how death doesn't need legs,
or even teeth,
but just a cloudy Thursday,
when we believe the chances of rain
the most important thing
to talk about.
